Melbourne bachata classes

Monday nights in Altona, 8PM: Lots of room, air conditioned, recently got new instructors. Was a very friendly crowd when I was going at the end of 2014.

Monday nights at Intersection Cafe (Carlton): Haven't been, have heard recommendations for it. Quite a few people I know go to this.

Tuesday nights at Bachata Inc. (Brunswick), 6.30PM, 7:30PM, and 8:30PM: smaller area, can get crowded but doesn't get muggy. Instructors (Andrew and Lisa) are great, they teach a lot of Dominican style moves occasionally including quite challenging hand movements or footwork in the advanced class. Some quite skilled leads and follows attend, particularly the instructors. Social time after lessons. Beginners starts at 6.30. The difficulty ramps up until the advanced class ends at about 9:45PM. Social goes until 11pm when the carpark closes. $5 parmas often available from the bar. Social $5, whole night $15 if you SMS or $20 otherwise. Numbers at the moment seem like ~50 people.

Tuesday nights at The Salsa Foundation (CBD), 8PM: the Level 3 class, aimed at budding performers/competitions. Small group, ~4 couples. Danni, the female instructor, has good tips on posture, muscle control, etc. that I haven't heard elsewhere. Mark, the male instructor, likes to take moves from other styles so the patterns are a mix of traditional dominican or sensual moves combined with moves reminiscent of kizomba, tango, reggaeton and zouk. Occasionally includes a fairly safe lift/trick.

Wednesday nights at Melbourne Latin Dance (Carlton: Guseli on Nicholson St), 7:30PM and 8:30PM: I haven't been to this one, but I've heard recommendations. Free social afterwards.

Wednesday and Thursday nights at The Salsa Foundation (CBD), 8.45PM: Mark's Level 1 class.
Starts again every three months. Younger crowd, with some new faces every week. Numbers often up to ~80 people. These lessons are good fun for beginners. Can get quite warm and muggy, particularly in summer, although there are lots of fans. Music stays on for maybe a half-hour after the class (the lesson starts a bit before 9PM and the venue starts packing up at about 10.30PM).
Used to be Level 2 on Wednesdays, which was quite similar to Level 3, but without the performance tips. Only a couple of songs to practise to after the class finishes. Venue also hosts Salsa lessons on the same night. Female instructors don't say much. Numbers often about ~50 people. Can get quite warm and muggy, particularly in summer, although there are lots of fans.

Sunday nights at Latin Sundays (St. Kilda), 6PM and 7PM: Leo and Paula teach mostly Dominican turn patterns of moderate difficulty, with the occasional abrupt hesitation. Mostly a newer crowd but some really skilled dancers come to the nice long social afterwards (with a live band that plays bachata). Numbers are growing, currently ~20 people in the second lesson.
